Work Permit

Foreign workers can apply for work in Canada if they have a lawful work permit. Canada provides a variety of programmes that allow potential workers to work in the country.

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program is a well-known programme that allows overseas employees to work in Canada on a temporary basis. Depending on the conditions and different eligibility parameters set for the programme, the work permit can be Open or Employer Specific.

If they are currently enrolled as a full-time student in a public post secondary (DLI institute) or working as a skilled worker in Canada, temporary residents in Canada, such as international students or skilled workers, can sponsor their spouse to come to Canada on an open work permit.

There are other schemes as well, such as the Atlantic Immigration pilot programme, which allows the lead candidate to sponsor his or her spouse and children if they meet certain criteria.
