Family Sponsorship

There are sponsorship programs in Canada that allow permanent residents or citizens to sponsor their immediate family members such as spouses and children.

Additionally, a permanent resident or citizen of Canada can sponsor his or her parents or grandparents through certain programs. Additionally, some relatives can be sponsored. It should be noted that different options have different eligibility requirements to meet to become a sponsor or a principal applicant

Parents Sponsorship

As part of Canada's famous Parents and Grandparents program, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada can sponsor their parents or grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada. A spouse of the principal sponsor can become a co-sponsor to meet the minimum income requirement to become a sponsor. Primary applicants are currently chosen through a lottery.

Spousal Sponsorship

Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are eligible sponsors may sponsor their spouse, common law partner, and dependent children for permanent residence in Canada. In addition to showing the sincerity of the relationship, the sponsor must meet some basic eligibility standards. To successfully sponsor his or her spouse, the sponsor must be at least 18 years old and legally married. If the pair is not officially married but is living together, they must have been together for at least 12 months.
